Players 18 and above can buy Minnesota Lottery tickets online through the following courier apps.

Lottery couriers purchase official lottery tickets from authorized retailers, transfer prizes under $600 directly to users’ accounts, and deliver physical tickets straight to customers in cases of more significant wins.

Jackpocket launched for Minnesota residents in 2018 after receiving a “memorandum of understanding” with the MN Lottery. Per the memorandum, Jackpocket agreed to rules set by the MN Lottery, including ensuring all customers are 18 or older.

Within a month of launching in Minnesota, the Jackpocket app sold its first seven-figure ticket to a local player. The Jackpocket user ordered a Powerball ticket through Jackpocket, won a $1 million prize, and claimed the prize directly from the MN Lottery.

The Minnesota Lottery app offers a straightforward range of features designed to increase convenience for frequent players.

The ticket scanner is by far the most useful feature, but it requires players to sign up for accounts and provide their personal information, which is unnecessary.

The lottery maintains that registration is useful because it allows players to enter second-chance drawings, but signing up really should be optional. Some players simply want to use the app to quickly check the occasional ticket, just like they can at any retailer. Signing up and having yet another username/login to remember is annoying for people who want to check the occasional ticket quickly.

Otherwise, the Minnesota Lottery app functions well and is easy to use. The pay slip feature is also handy because it allows players to build custom ticket requests, take them to any retailer, and scan the generated QR code to print their tickets with minimal fuss.

Key Features

  • Ticket Scanner: Check lotto and scratch tickets for winners; enter them into second-chance drawings
  • Pay Slip Generator: Pick your numbers, drawings, and other options to generate pay slips that the retailer can scan for fast checkouts
  • Promotions Tab: See all current Minnesota Lottery promotions and second-chance drawings
  • Scratch-Offs Database: See all available Minnesota Lottery scratch-offs, odds of winnings, and prizes remaining
  • Draw Games Database: See all available draw games in Minnesota, with how-to-play guides, odds of winning each prize, the next drawing, and unclaimed prizes
  • Retailer Locator: Allow the app to see your current location or input any zip code to see all nearby Minnesota Lottery purchase locations

The Minnesota Lottery does not offer online ticket sales directly to customers. The Minnesota Lottery briefly sold tickets online but ended the practice in 2015.

However, the MN Lottery has addressed the legality of third-party couriers. In official public communications, the Minnesota Lottery has stated:

“Lottery service businesses (LSBs) have been allowed to legally operate in Minnesota since 2005.”

However, the Minnesota Lottery explains that it is not affiliated with lottery courier apps and has “no regulatory authority over their operations.”

Even so, the Minnesota Lottery works with lottery couriers “to communicate and encourage industry best practices regarding issues such as protection of personal information, verification of legal age and Minnesota residency, and the importance of encouraging responsible gambling habits.”

In Summary: It’s legal to buy Minnesota Lottery tickets online, but players must use reputable couriers only since the state does not regulate them.

The Minnesota Lottery offers various game types categorized into standard draw-style games, scratchers, print-n-play games, and an annual raffle.

Minnesota Powerball is one of the state’s (and nation’s) biggest jackpot games. Prizes start at $20 million but often breach the $100 million mark and occasionally even $1 billion.

Mega Million is Minnesota’s other mega jackpot game, with starting jackpots of $20 million that quickly grow from there. Prizes occasionally exceed the $1 billion mark, making Mega Millions another obvious choice for players who want to go big or go home.

Lotto America is another multi-state draw game with jackpots that fall somewhere in between Minnesota’s in-state games and the Big Two described above. With starting jackpots of $2 million that frequently hit $10 million or more, Lotto America is an excellent medium ground for players who want bigger jackpots but with better odds than Powerball and Mega Millions.

The Minnesota Lottery raffle begins selling tickets every fall and continues until all the tickets are sold out. On January 1st, the numbers are drawn to award prizes ranging from $50 to $1,000,000.

The $1 million top prize features some of the best odds in the world for a seven-figure payout at 1 in 400,000 (and even better if the MN Lottery doesn’t sell out of raffle tickets).

Players do not pick numbers in the Minnesota Millionaire Raffle; they buy tickets and wait for the random drawing to see if they’ve won one of the following prizes:

  • $1,000,000: 2 Winners (1 in 400,000)
  • $100,000: 5 winners (1 in 160,000)
  • $50,000: 5 winners (1 in 160,000)
  • $25,000: 5 winners (1 in 160,000)
  • $10,000: 10 winners (1 in 80,000)
  • $500: 100 winners (1 in 8,000)
  • $200: 150 winners (1 in 5,333.33)
  • $100: 5,700 winners (1 in 140.35)
  • $50: 9,700 winners (1 in 82.47)

In Gopher 5, players select five numbers from 1-47.

Gopher 5 is Minnesota’s biggest in-state lottery game, with starting jackpots of $100,000 that frequently break the $500,000 mark and occasionally reach $1-$2 million before being won.

If multiple winners match five numbers for the jackpot, they split the current prize amount equally.

  • Match 5: Jackpot (minimum $100,000) (1 in 1,533,939)
  • Match 4: $500 (1 in 7,304)
  • Match 3: $15 (1 in 178)
  • Match 2: $1 (1 in 13)
  • Any prize odds: 1 in 12

  • Ticket Price: $1

North 5 has players select five numbers from 1-31 for progressive jackpots that range from $25,000 to about $100,000.

  • Match 5: Jackpot (minimum $25,000) (1 in 169,911)
  • Match 4: $50 (1 in 1,307)
  • Match 3: (1 in 52)
  • Match 2: $1 (1 in 7)
  • Any prize odds: 1 in 6
