Massachusetts Lottery Mobile Prize Claims
The Massachusetts Lottery app offers online prize claims for prizes worth $601 to $5,000.
Players can initiate online prize claims after scanning their scratch-offs and draw game tickets with the Massachusetts Lottery app’s scan feature. If the ticket is a winner, and the prize is worth $601 to $5,000, the Massachusetts Lottery app will offer an option to start a mobile prize claim.
Mobile prize claims pay via ACH transfer only, so winners must have checking accounts and be ready to provide their account and routing numbers. The Massachusetts Lottery pays most online prize claims within a few days.
The amounts eligible for mobile redemption weren’t chosen at random, as $601 is the threshold that requires a visit to a regional claims center. Prizes up to $600 can be claimed at lottery retailers, which means retailers won’t lose foot traffic from customers redeeming winning tickets through the lottery app.
Prizes over $5,000 still require a visit to a regional claims center.
When the Massachusetts Lottery launched mobile claims in 2020, it received a warm reception from players.
“It was just so simple,” Elaine Tellstone, the first person to use the new online lottery claim process, told Statehouse News Service at the time.
“It took less than five minutes to scan my ticket and submit my claim. Depending on traffic and how many people were in line, it would’ve taken about two hours out of my day to claim my prize in person in Worcester.”
Massachusetts Treasurer Deborah Goldberg also noted that mobile claims offer more than just convenience:
“Making remote ticket cashing transactions available is a terrific advancement for the Lottery in accommodating our customers. It has the added benefit of positive environmental impacts as it helps reduce carbon emissions by eliminating a lot of driving and production of paper checks.”
