Kansas Lottery

The Kansas Lottery is going online thanks to rules adopted by the Lottery Commission during its August 2024 meeting.

The new rules will allow players 18 or older to buy Kansas Lottery tickets online, play instant win games, and earn PlayOn rewards for every purchase.

The Kansas Lottery Commission hasn’t set a firm launch date for online sales but is reportedly aiming for late 2024 or early 2025. In a statement, the Kansas Lottery said it will have “best-in-class geolocation and age verification in place before any online or mobile sales go live.”

In the meantime, players may only buy Kansas Lottery tickets in person at authorized retailers. None of BettingUSA’s trusted lottery courier apps operate in Kansas, so we recommend waiting just a bit longer for the official KS Lottery app and website to introduce online sales.

The Kansas Lottery offers a wide selection of game types, variations, and denominations to fit all budgets and most play styles. Whether players want to take shots at mega jackpots with games like Powerball and Mega Millions or play for lots of small, fixed prizes, the Kansas Lottery has a game type to scratch that itch.

  • Mega Jackpot Draw Games: Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto America, and Lucky for Life
  • State Operated Jackpot Games: Super Kansas Cash and Holiday Millionaire Raffle
  • Daily Drawings: 2by2, Pick 3, and Racetrax
  • Fast Play: Instant win games with results printed on the ticket; like scratch-offs but without scratching
  • Scratchers: Roughly 40 scratch-offs available from denominations of $1 to $50
  • Tab Games: Handful of pull-tab games available at any given time for $1 to $2
  • Keno: Kansas Keno

Players can join the Kansas Lottery PlayOn loyalty program to earn rewards for ticket purchases, enter second-chance drawings, redeem points for entries into cash drawings, and participate in exclusive drawings.

Rewards club members earn points by scanning their winning and non-winning tickets in the PlayOn app, participating in surveys, and playing promotional games online. And when the Kansas Online Lottery launches, PlayOn members will automatically earn rewards for every iLottery purchase.

Once players have a PlayOn points balance, they can visit the rewards store to exchange points for entries into drawings for prizes ranging from $50 coupons to all-expenses vacations and VIP sports experiences.

For example, one recent drawing awarded a “KC Chiefs Ultimate Experience” consisting of:

  • Chiefs Flyaway package
  • Chiefs Club Level Suite experience
  • Chiefs season tickets
  • NFL Draft Fest experience

Players can join PlayOn for free by downloading the official Kansas Lottery app or visiting playonkansas.com and clicking the log-in/sign-up button in the upper-right corner of the homepage.

Prizes of up to $599 can be claimed at Kansas Lottery retailers. Some retailers have established times for redemptions or have placed other restrictions on them. You can visit the Lottery headquarters in Topeka to claim prizes, though you’ll need to fill out a claim form if the prize is worth $50 or more.

If your prize is worth $600 or more, you can only claim your prize at the Lottery headquarters in Topeka during normal business hours. You’ll need to bring your signed ticket and a completed claim form to the office to claim your prize.

Prizes of up to $5,000 will be issued via check the same day you claim them. If the prize is larger than $5,000, it can only be sent via the mail, send via electronic deposit to a bank account, or picked up at Lottery headquarters several days later.

Note that Kansas adds a 5% state tax surcharge to the 24% federal withholdings required on winnings of $5,000 or more.

Al Kansas Lottery prizes expire 365 days from the drawing or expiration date of a game.

Players can contact the Kansas Lottery via e-mail or at any lottery office from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday.

Revenue generated by the Kansas Lottery goes to the State Gaming Revenues Fund (SGRF). The SGRF transfers funds received from KS Lottery to support economic development initiatives, prison construction and maintenance, problem gambling assistance, and the State General Fund. Each year, the Kansas Legislature determines how to distribute Kansas Lottery funds.
