DraftKings Acquires Kountermove MMA DFS App

Kountermove customers received an e-mail this morning announcing that DraftKings Daily Fantasy has acquired the fantasy MMA site. The e-mail explained that current Kountermove customers can set up an account at DraftKings and transfer their funds over from Kountermove. Anyone who already has a DraftKings account can just transfer the funds over to that account.

Previously, Kountermove operated as the only fantasy site dedicated to combat sports. Some of its offerings included MMA fights, grappling events, and boxing betting. KounterMove was reported to have nearly 30,000 registered customers.

DraftKings has had fantasy MMA contests since January of 2015 but with a focus on UFC events only. Kountermove went more in depth with Strikeforce, PRIDE, Glory Kickboxing and WWE contests. There’s no word yet on whether or not DraftKings plans to expand its own combat sports offering. However, a quote from DraftKings founder Matt Kalish may reveal their intentions.

He told MMAJunkie.com that “we had been looking for opportunities to grow our presence in combat sports, so it was a very logical fit for us to come together.” If DraftKings does expand its lineup of combat sports, this takeover will be a win all-around for Kountermove players. DraftKings’ existing MMA user base will provide more numerous contests with larger prize pools. At the time of this writing, the largest MMA contest on DraftKings was a $150,000 prize pool event with $20,000 reserved for first.

A DraftKings press release had this to say:

The transaction builds on DraftKings existing platform, further advancing the company’s leadership position in combat daily fantasy sports and accelerating the company’s overall growth in the combat sports space. With the transaction, DraftKings expects to further advance the level of competition currently provided by the company while accelerating its strategic objectives in growing the engagement with combat sports.

‘At DraftKings our mission is to bring sports fans closer to the sports that they love, and we are excited to expand our combat sports offerings,’ said Matt Kalish, Co-Founder and Chief Revenue Officer of DraftKings. ‘The Kountermove team has built a tremendous product with an enthusiastic fan base and we’re excited to grow with them.’ Fantasy sports give contestants the opportunity to play the role of a general manager, creating a fantasy lineup of real-world athletes in an attempt to earn more ‘fantasy points’ than competitors.

Transfer Bonus

The above e-mail mentions a transfer bonus for everyone switching over to DraftKings. Here’s how it works:

  • If you’re new to DraftKings, you will get a 100% bonus added to the transfer amount
  • New players also still qualify for the first time 100% deposit bonus
  • If you transfer your balance to an existing DraftKings account, you will get a 25% bonus
